Q. Hi, We are looking at a Dekstop Computer configuration which suits well to our bussiness purpose. We need some twelve numbers to be deployed at our data collection center where the PC will be largely used for accepting applications on a daily basis. we expect the working hours to be around 9-10 hr per day and would like to perfomr well on the internet side. Other add ons needed are one printer, one scanner and the network infra structure. What configuration would you suggest? Do we need a client server architecture? If so what is the best supporting network backbone. Please advice. The Collections centers are to be located in our branches in Kolkata, chennai and cochin. Please advice.

Ans. Hi, Thanks for posting in. The best way to look for is a desktop with configurations like Intel Atom Processor, 2-3 GB RAM, less than 250GB HDD with no CD/DVD Drive/Writer etc. However when you select a keyboard, make sure it is a heavy duty one. You can consider brands like Logitech for mouse and KB. It is preferable to go for a 15" TFT Monitor (Samsung and Acer does well) than a CRT. Saves space and the operator''s eyes. As you suggested, Client-Server architecture will be better for the network. You can consider a Star or Star bus Topology. Find out more on topologies at wiki . As far as printer is concerned. You an all in one will be better when compared to the normal printers. However if printing is heavy you can consider buying a Laser from HP, Canon etc. Laser printers are little more expensive but in the long run they can save you a lot more than the Inkjets. If you are a starter in business looking for cheaper options you can even consider refurbished PCs with new TFT monitors. This will support you easily for more than two years. If all that you are going to do is Application Collection you can get a few dual cores with a higher RAM Capacity. Keep the DVD writers only in the server or selected few computers. Collection points do not require them anyway. I am sure you will also look at considering a centrally managed high capacity UPS for efficient power management. This investment indirectly increases the life of your PC. All the very best from Team MyRightBuy.

Q. hi, I am confused. I plan to buy a digital camera and eager to know what to look at. Is it all about megapixels? Its a small one i am looking for and no compromise on the quality. Please help me.
By: Jessy   |  Posted On: 6/8/2009 9:41:41 PM
Ans. Buying a sleek digital camera shouldn't be a problem since all the major brands have come out with small and sleek models. More important part is the understanding on mega pixels and the Zoom aspects. Most digital cameras brag about their Mega pixel count and are one of the most misunderstood aspects of digital Photography. It is nothing but the very mean measure of the quality of the image the camera can capture. A higher mega pixel count does not necessarily signify a better image quality. The quality of the lens, algorithms used to make the photo from raw data collected by the Sensor, and the focusing mechanism are more important features that contribute to the image quality. This does not meant that you will have to go for an SLR. For all practical purposes a 3-4 mp is adequate. Anything higher is luxury. But since we already have cameras with 8 and 16 mps under their hood, luxuries are now affordable. Another important factor is the size of the Sensor itself. Consumer digital cameras have tiny image sensors and in most cases are less than 10 microns due to the sleek size of the cameras, designed at least to fit in a pocket. A smaller sensor has its on drawbacks like difficulty in focusing on smaller areas, image instability and lower image quality. The quality of a 3mp image taken with a larger sensor cannot be compared to a 3mp image taken in a smaller camera (smaller sensor). To conclude on this aspect you can go for a digital camera with min of 6x optical zoom and pixel rate more than 4mp. Major brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Lumix or Kodak does not make much of difference in the quality of the image. it is completely based on the configurations and features the camera posses. Choose one with more automatic features if your camera is going to be used by every one in your family. Make sure you do some home work and find more on each camera you wish to consider. The feature of pulling out one color and leaving the rest black and white is a good feature that a digital camera gives but to be honest this can be better accomplished with a descent image editing software like Picasa. What if you want to make only the left corner colored and rest as black and white and what if you want two points (lets say two faces) colored? Using an image editing software will be a better option by all means. Personally, Canon is always a good camera with more professional features; But Sony is more user-friendly and delivers a comparable quality. These two are the major brands as far as smaller digital cameras a concerned. Happy Photography.

Q. Hi Sir, First of all let me thank you for the on-time support you deliver. I am into travel and tourism and travels quite often throughout india (and sometimes abroad). I need to keep in touch with my office in pune and I use a blackberry. Since this needs a replacement I started looking for options. What PDA Shall I upgrade to? Another Blackberry or is there any other better phone you can suggest? Thanks in advance.
By: Adithi   |  Posted On: 6/8/2009 12:04:56 AM
Ans. Hi, To answer this you should have detailed a lil more on your usage habits. Since you have been using your Blackberry for some time now, it will be easier for you to get accustomed to a new Blackberry. The Blackberry Storm model is an instant hit and delivers a bunch of powerful features with a professional look and feel. However if you have plans to switch brand and try a new one, there are options from HTC, Samsung, Nokia, Imate and many other brands. Tell us more on the Budget and specs you are looking at. That way we will be able to help you better. Do some comparisons on our products page. There you can doa a quick research with options to filter by brand and price and also do some feature based comparisons. Do write back to us in detail after some research and then we will help you to choose your best buddy.

Q. i am having a hp Pavilion media centre pc m7560In my pc configuration is PentiumD 820 (S) DC 2.8 GHz 800 MHz front side bus motherboard name: Asterope2-GL8E chipset is ATI Radeon Xpress 200 for Intel Processors 2 GB DDR2 ram Hard drive 160 GB SATA 7200 rpm GeForce 7300LE 64 MB DDR memory My PSU is 300w i want to know which graphic card will be best like geforce 9400gt 9500gt or ati hd4670 etc will a card having PCI E 2.0 will give the same performance in PCI E 1.0 because i have a PCI E 1.0 slot. will there be any problems with the power supply
By: Nirav   |  Posted On: 5/20/2009 9:47:22 AM
Ans. Hi, Thanks for posting in. We have answered your question part by part. You can go for the second one if you compare between 9400gt and 9500gt. Comparing these two the latter is twice as fast as the first one. hd4670 is also a good add on, but the above two overtakes this in performance. The relase of PCIe 2.0 technology have doubled the bus standard's bandwidth from 0.25 GByte/s to 0.5 GByte/s. This simply means that a ×32 connector can transfer data at up to 16 GByte/s for both videocards (SLI 2×, etc.). Backword compatibility of the 2.0 boards are up to the mark and they accept the v 1.1 or v 1.0 versions with ease. However, the speed aspects largely depends on the supporeting bandwidth of the add on graphics card used. Evethough the card will work smooth on the PC 2.0 board they will deliver the same performance as in the older board. As far as the power supply is considered, make sure you have a 450 watt power supply. If so adding the card would not add a big load. Adding a fan (If you don’t have atleast 2) however would be a right decision.

By: Vijay   |  Posted On: 5/18/2009 5:53:59 AM
Ans. I don't think what you are trying to do is going to work.It sounds like the web sites are more for non-mobile applications. You can't cut and paste on a cell phone. You can download an approved and supported application and when you do that, you don't have to cut and paste anything. Can you tell me exactly what web site and application he is trying to download and perhaps I can help you solve your problem...

Q. I have learned that flat-screen computer monitors give off less radiation than nonflat-screen monitors,Would this also hold true for television monitors?
By: Bindya   |  Posted On: 5/16/2009 12:40:54 AM
Ans. Yes,There would be less radiation from a flat-screen television monitor as well. The primary "radiations" of concern from video products are x radiation, electric fields, and magnetic fields. The only possible source of x radiation from television receivers,TV monitors,or computer monitors is the picture tube, also known as the cathode ray tube or CRT.The x radiation is generated when an electron beam, after acceleration through an applied high voltage, strikes the inside of the face of the CRT.This results in rapid deceleration of the electrons and therefore emission of electromagnetic radiation. The energy of this electromagnetic radiation depends on the high voltage that is applied to the CRT.The higher the high voltage, the more the electrons will be accelerated, the more kinetic energy they will have when they strike the CRT face, and the more energy the x radiation will have.Keep in mind that this x radiation is always generated inside a CRT. A properly designed and operated CRT has glass of sufficient density and thickness to highly filter the x radiation so levels outside the CRT meet 0.5 mR/hr exposure-rate limits.Typical high-voltage values in CRTs vary from 10,000 to 35,000 volts with larger-size CRTs having higher high voltages. Flat-screen monitors and flat-screen TVs have no CRT.They use a totally different display technology. They operate with maximum voltages of tens or hundreds of volts, nowhere near the thousands of volts needed to create x-ray energy emissions. They are inherently incapable of producing x radiation.
